The continued competition to offer a greater line of longer lasting and higher quality LEDs has resulted in some new low profile LED fixtures and drop-in LED lamps that can replace incandescent bulbs in your existing fixtures. Because an LED's brightness diminishes over time, L70 has become the standard rating for LED lamp life. This means that when the LED has diminished to 70% of it's original lumens it is considered to be the LED's end of life. The Kichler LED's shown on this page are rated at 40,000 hours.
LED lamps such as those offered by Kichler are designed, tested and listed for use in outdoor environments and are suitable for use in outdoor wet locations, and in open or enclosed fixtures. Each is weather coated and the electronics are epoxy sealed ("potted") assuring superior durability. These lamps allow consumers to have the energy efficiency of LED without the expense of changing existing incandescent fixtures.
Standard professional incandescent path-light fixtures use bulbs ranging from 16 to 24.5 watts and accent or spot lighting ranges from 20 to 60 watts. An average incandescent lighting system comprised of 6 accent lights (@ 35w ea.) and 4 path lights (@ 24.5w ea.) would consume 308 watts. Installing LED lamps would reduce power consumption by more than 80%.
Imagine not having to change any lamps for the next 12-14 years.
When we apply this to new installations the result is a much more efficient lighting system that requires less capacity on the transformer and less wire in the ground which offsets the higher price of the LED lamps or fixtures. The result is a win/win for customers with lower energy bills and less maintenance required over the life of the system.
